Former ESPN executive Steve Bornstein was tapped by the National Football
League Thursday to head up its new NFL Channel.
In his new position as executive vice president of media and president and
CEO of the NFL Channel, Bornstein will oversee all aspects of the NFL on
television, including the new network -- set to launch next fall -- as well as
the development of the league's recently completed digital production center at
NFL Films in Mt. Laurel, N.J.
Bornstein joined the NFL last September as an advisor on television and
strategic media, and he played a pivotal role in the league's decision to extend
its "NFL Sunday Ticket" out-of-market package on DirecTV Inc. through 2007.
NFL commissioner Paul Tagliabue said in a prepared statement, "Steve
Bornstein adds tremendous strength to our team as we look ahead to our
challenges and opportunities in servicing our fans on
