Boyd Joins Hughes Board

Ralph F. Boyd will join the new Hughes Electronics Corp. board of directors, the company said Wednesday.

The new board is pending government approval of Hughes’ separation from General Motors Corp. and the sale of 34% of Hughes to News Corp.

Boyd is currently a partner in the Washington, D.C., office of Alston & Bird LLP.

From 2001-03, he served as the assistant attorney general for civil rights at the Department of Justice, where, as the nation's chief civil-rights enforcer, he reported directly to Attorney General John Ashcroft.
