Brent Bozell's Parents Television Council joined the fight against FX's
controversial The Shield, pressuring advertisers to pull their spots from
the racy cop show.
He congratulated Burger King Corp., Office Depot Inc. and New Balance
Athletic Shoe Inc. for pulling their ads, and he called on several other
sponsors to do so, including MasterCard International Inc., Anheuser-Busch Cos.
Inc., Tricon Global Restaurants Inc., Budget Rent a Car Corp., Midas Inc.,
Orbitz LLC and Progressive Casualty Insurance Co.
His involvement is bad news for FX: Bozell has scared advertisers away from
many programs in the past, and he even prompted World Wrestling Federation
Entertainment Inc. to sue for defamation two years ago.
In a case that's still pending in a Connecticut court, the WWF claimed that
it lost many advertisers due to a PTC campaign. The advocacy group failed to get
the suit dismissed.
