Breast Cancer Foundation Salutes Lifetime’s Black

Lifetime Television CEO Carole Black will receive the “Humanitarian Award” Wednesday from the Breast Cancer Research Foundation.

Black will accept the award “on behalf of Lifetime marking a decade devoted to informing women about important health issues, most particularly breast cancer,” the foundation said in a prepared statement.

New York State first lady Libby Pataki will present the award to Black at the ceremony at the Waldorf-Astoria in New York, hosted by CBS’ The Early Show anchor Rene Syler.

J. Michael Bishop and Harold Varmus -- who shared the Nobel Prize in 1989 for their landmark research, which has led to a successful search for the genetic origins of cancer -- will receive the “Jill Rose Award” for scientific achievement.
