Nicktoons Joins Global Nets To Take Flight With 'Skyland’

New YorkNicktoons Network will be joined next month by such networks as France 2, Teletoon (Canada) and ABC (Australia) in a global preview of new series Skyland.

In the States, Nicktoons, Nickelodeon’s 24-hour animation network, will sneak-peek the hour-long pilot of the series Nov. 25 at 8 p.m., with an encore three hours later. In addition to the aforementioned services, networks in the United Kingdom, Spain, Germany, Norway, Sweden, Denmark, Holland, Italy, Israel and Latin America will either air the pilot or clips from the show.

Produced by Method Films, Skyland, which will assume its regular time slot within Nicktoons’ “3 Headed Monster Block” on Jan. 14 at 8 p.m. (ET), is a sci-fi action adventure series following a young brother and sister team in search of their parents following the shattering of the Earth in 2251.

ABC Family Orders 'Kyle XY,’ Renews 'Beautiful’

Burbank, Calif.ABC Family has ordered eight episodes of Kyle XY from Touchstone Television, and has renewed Beautiful People for a second season.

A one-hour ensemble drama, Kyle XY is expected to bow next summer. The series centers on Kyle (newcomer Matt Dallas), a mysterious teenage boy, whose actions suggest he is a newborn. Brought home from an institution by psychologist Nicole Trager (Marguerite McIntyre), Kyle’s presence initially engenders a wariness with her family until he’s later accepted and begins to experience everyday things like computers, music and a high school parties.

Paul Lee, president of ABC Family, which earlier picked up original series Wildfire for a second season, also said the network ordered eight more episodes of Beautiful People, a one-hour drama about a mother and tow daughters who relocate from a small New Mexican town to Manhattan’s upper crust, from Sony Pictures Television. They will debut next summer.

Cablevision Lets Candidates Take to the VOD Hustings

Bethpage, N.Y.Cablevision Systems Corp. will do its part to help inform constituents about local elections in New York’s Long Island and Westchester Counties, as well as in Connecticut and New Jersey.

Subscribers to the MSO’s iO: Interactive Optimum digital-cable service will have access to all local-election coverage from the company’s News 12 services in those areas free-of-charge via its on-demand service.

Hallmark Channel Hits 70 Million-Home Mark

Los AngelesHallmark Channel is now in 70 million homes.

Hallmark — which was relaunched Aug. 5, 2001 from the former Odyssey Network — said it was cable’s fastest-growing network during the four-year period from August 2001-August 2005, adding nearly 50 million subscribers over that span. Thus far in 2005, network executives said Hallmark has increased its sub count by 5.5 million.

Comcast’s L.A. System Launches French Net

Los AngelesComcast Corp. has launched French-language channel TV5 USA here.

The premium network, featuring films, dramas, arts and cultural programming, news and sports, is now available to Comcast customers for $12.99 per month on channel 288. Previously, TV5 USA had been available to cable customers in L.A. through Time Warner Cable and Adelphia Communications Corp.
