Planet Special Listens 'When Animals Talk’

Silver Spring, Md. — Do animals have a sixth sense? Can people really speak to them and can the creatures understand what we’re saying?

Those are among the questions that pioneering primatologist Dr. Jane Goodall will address in her upcoming special When Animals Talk, set to premiere on Animal Planet on June 12 from 8 to 10 p.m. (ET/PT).

In a departure from her previous documentary-style specials, When Animals Talk will feature Goodall, who in her groundbreaking research on chimpanzees in Tanzania observed that animals have distinct personalities and emotions, focusing on people’s personal stories about connecting with the animals they love.

WWE Pins Down Three SVOD Deals

Stamford, Conn.World Wrestling Entertainment Inc. put a stronghold on three carriage deals for its subscription video- on-demand service.

Insight Communications Co. Inc., Click! Network and MetroCast Cablevision have signed on to carry the WWE 24/7 service.

Those carriers join Cox Communications Inc., Blue Ridge Communications, RCN Corp., Sunflower Broadband, Massillon Cable TV and Shrewsbury Electric and Cable Communications.

“With a footprint covering some of the most passionate WWE fans in the entire country, Insight is a perfect fit for our product,” WWE vice president of affiliate sales Peter Clifford said in a statement. “We take great pride in partnering with a true cable pioneer and another aggressive proponent of new on-demand products and services.”

CN8 Sends Signal Into Steel City

Pittsburgh — CN8: The Comcast Network, launched in this DMA on June 1, pushing the regional into 10 eastern markets.

The addition of 250,000 Comcast homes here boosts CN8’s total to some 6.7 million subscribers.

Offering 75 hours of original programming per week, the network, which has received 208 regional Emmy nominations, now serves viewers from Maine to Maryland: New York; Philadelphia, Pittsburgh and Harrisburg, Penn.; Boston and Springfield, Mass.; Baltimore and Salisbury, Md; Hartford-New Haven, Conn.; and Providence.

“CN8’s availability in Pittsburgh represents another great milestone for the network,” said Michael Doyle, president, Comcast Cable Eastern Division and founder, CN8. “Our growing footprint demonstrates the credibility of our regional programming expertise.”

AMC, Cinematheque Ink Partnership Pact

New YorkAMC will be the exclusive broadcast partner of American Cinematheque through 2006, following a two-year extension announced Wednesday.

American Cinematheque, the nonprofit, viewer-supported film-exhibition and cultural organization dedicated to the celebration of moving pictures, is expected to announce its 2005 honoree next week.

An AMC spokeswoman said it will air its presentation of this year’s tribute in January 2006.

VH1 Classic Rocks Around the Decades

New YorkVH1 Classic is working with World Productions on Decades Rock Live, a new live concert series that will bow in September.

The program will feature will feature performances by celebrated artists from the rock 'n’ roll and soul genres who have influenced music over the past half-century, as well as performances from some of today’s recording acts who have been inspired by these musicians.

The first installment of the series, which will be taped at the Trump Taj Mahal’s high-definition TV studio on August 5, stars The Doors of the 21st Century, featuring original Doors members Robby Krieger and Ray Manzarek, as well as Ian Astbury (The Cult).

Special guests will include Perry Farrell from Jane’s Addiction, guitarists Pat Travers, girl group Antigone Rising and the original Vanilla Fudge.

'Real’ Deal for Lifetime, DirecTV

New YorkLifetime Real Women has reached a distribution agreement with DirecTV Inc. With the pact, the Lifetime Television spinoff is now in some 12 million homes, according to network officials.

Lifetime Real Women will be offered in the direct-broadcast satellite provider’s “Total Choice Plus” and “Total Choice Premier” packages starting this week.
