Bright House, Cisco Get The Urge To Converge

Cisco Systems said Bright House Networks has deployed its Network Convergence System (NCS), a network fabric family that will help the MSO offer cloud-based, managed services to  business customers, including hosted voice, call center, and application/infrastructure-as-a-service offerings.

The Cisco NCS will also allow Bright House to offer managed security, network transport, WiFi and traditional voice and data services to business customers, Cisco said.

Part of that deployment will center on the Cisco NCS 6000, a 1 Tbps line card with the capability of transporting up to 5 Tbps per slot and a total system capacity of 1.2 petabits per second (Pbps) in a multi-chassis configuration, the vendor said. The NCS 6000 will work in tandem with Bright House’s deployment of Cisco ASR 9000 aggregation routers.

“Working with Cisco will help us to quickly bring new business and residential services to market faster and perform in-service software upgrades without any downtime or service interruption or degradation,” said Craig Cowden, Bright House's chief network officer and senior vice president, Enterprise Solutions, in a statement.
