Britney Bombs, Kanye/50 Cent Fizzle At MTV Video Music Awards

MTV’s 2007 Video Music Awards, live from Las Vegas Sunday, made headlines with a Britney Spears performance (roundly panned), a Kanye West-50 Cent confrontation that wasn’t and Sarah Silverman’s monologue that saw the hostess purse her lips into the shape of a vagina.

As followups within the MTV Networks universe:

BET hopes to draw fans to its version of Kanye vs. 50 Cent Tuesday on the live music show 106th & Park. The show starts at 6 p.m. ET. The rappers each have CDs dropping: "Curtis" by 50 Cent and "Graduation" by Kanye West that day. According to BET, “Both will take to the stage to perform songs from each of their albums. Taking the heavyweight match theme to the max, ESPN host Stuart Scott will be on hand to deliver statistical breakdowns of both men.”

According to BET.com, the two have a “friendly rivalry” that heated up when their respective labels changed the CD release dates to coincide.

This past weekend, the Associated Press reported that 50 Cent (Aka Curtis James Jackson) would “not put out any more solo albums” if West’s Graduation album outsells his (Curtis) release.

The two artists appeared onstage at last night’s MTV Music Video Awards in Las Vegas, but other than a much-hyped staredown before collectively announcing an award, there were no fireworks between the two rappers.

Alos, MTV sister VH1 is capitalizing on Britney Spears’s critically unloved performance of a song, “Gimme More. The network plans a clip-and-interview special, All Access: Britney’s Most Shocking Year Ever, at 8:30 p.m. ET/PT, also on Tuesday. It leads into a new VH1 series, What Perez Says, including what celeb watcher Perez Hilton has to say about Spears on the VMAs.

And Comedy Central is bringing back The Sarah Silverman Program on Oct. 3.
