Time Warner Cable chairman Glenn Britt urged cable operators attending the Texas Cable & Telecommunications Association’s annual confab to force satellite competitors to respond to cable innovation.

"The cable industry needs to lead and force competitors to react, rather than react to its competitors," Britt said, noting that the introduction of new products from MSOs is driving both consumer loyalty and profits.

Britt also told attendees at CableConnects 2004 that the industry could expand its video-on-demand rollouts by creating companion on-demand services for most basic networks.

In addition to rolling out digital-video recorders, the industry could roll out set-tops that would allow customers to record programming onto DVDs, he added.
