WASHINGTON -National Geographic Channel said it will officially debut its domestic channel on Jan. 7, with a live, one-hour special hosted by actor Pierce Brosnan.

CNBC will simulcast the event, from 8 p.m. to 9 p.m., preceding its weekly program
National Geographic Explorer.
National Geographic sister network Fox News Channel will rebroadcast the event at 9 p.m. Fox Cable Networks owns 67 percent of the domestic National Geographic Channel; National Geographic Television owns 33 percent.
National Geographic Channel plans a "soft launch" on Jan. 1, when its programming will become available to about 10 million AT&T Broadband, DirecTV Inc. and Adelphia Communications Corp. subscribers, a spokesman said.
