The late Roger Brown, former publisher and editorial director at CED magazine (a sister publication to Multichannel News), was one of three winners of the Society of Cable Telecommunications Engineers’ “Emerging Technologies Awards.”
The SCTE also recognized Comcast Cable Communications Inc. vice president of network and transport engineering John Leddy and Time Warner Cable director of network operations, South Carolina division Mike Coral.
The awards were presented at the SCTE Conference on Emerging Technologies 2006 in Tampa, Fla.
Brown received the “Polaris Award,” sponsored by CommScope Inc., which recognizes an SCTE member who has displayed exceptional achievement and commitment to the development and/or deployment of hybrid fiber-coaxial networks for commercial-services applications.
Leddy received the “IP Innovator Award,” sponsored by Cisco Systems Inc., which recognizes an SCTE member who, as an engineer or manager, has displayed innovative achievement and creativity in the advancement and development of Internet-protocol networking.
And the “Star of Integrity Award,” sponsored by C-COR Inc., which salutes an SCTE member who, as an engineer or manager, has contributed to the efficiency and effectiveness of next-generation networks in delivering on-demand services, went to Coral.
In addition to the individual award sponsors -- CommScope, Cisco and C-COR -- the 2006 SCTE Emerging Technologies Awards were sponsored by CED, Multichannel News and the SCTE.
