Ralph Brown, senior vice president of broadband access at Cable Television Laboratories Inc., has also been named chief technology officer by CEO Richard Green.
Brown takes over for David Reed, who moved to the position of chief strategy officer earlier this year.
Brown is a Time Warner Cable veteran, and he led CableLabs' Data Over Cable Service Interface Specification and CableHome research and development products.
CableLabs also announced that it has approved three digital-cable-ready TV sets from Pioneer Electronics Corp., Toshiba America Consumer Products and Samsung Electronics America Inc.
The cable industry’s research-and-development group said it has now approved 60 digital-TV models from 11 different manufacturers.
