The Cabletelevision Advertising Bureau's search for a CEO to succeed the
departing Joseph Ostrow is "down to a shorter list of a few candidates."
So said Bill Simon, managing director of global media and entertainment
practice at Korn/Ferry International, Friday.
Although some industry sources said former Variety group vice
president and publisher Gerry Byrne may be the front-runner or even the final
choice, Simon emphasized, "There's no finalist, no choice at the moment .
Progress is being made."
An announcement is likely in early March, he added.
He described Byrne as "a terrific guy and great
Variety -- like Multichannel News, a Reed Business Information
magazine -- in 2000 to become CEO and partner in New York-based Stagebill Media,
which was later acquired by Playbill.
Earlier, he was start-up publisher of Crain Communications Inc.'s
Electronic Media and Crain's NewYork Business and
international sales director at Advertising Age.
Executive recruiter Korn/Ferry was tapped to conduct the
CEO search last October.
