In an attempt to get closer to the day-to-day experience of cable, The Cable Center has expanded its board of directors to 36 members, adding 10 new directors to achieve a balance of having two-thirds of the board working in a day-to-day capacity in the cable industry.
The 10 new board members are: John Billock, vice chairman and chief operating officer, Time Warner Cable; George Bodenheimer, president, ESPN; Peter Brubaker, president and CEO, Susquehanna Communications Inc.; Ron Cooper, president and COO, Adelphia Communications Corp.; David Krone, executive vice president, National Cable & Telecommunications Association; Jose Mas, vice chairman and executive VP, business development, MasTec Inc.; Susan Packard, president, Scripps Networks New Ventures; David Van Valkenburg, president, A.J. Balfour & Associates; Carl Vogel, president and CEO, Charter Communications Inc.; and Michael Willner, president and CEO, Insight Communications Co. Inc.
The new directors will server three-year terms.
"We have a three-pronged mission to provide education and information to the cable industry, the academic community and the general public," said Robert Russo, president and CEO of The Cable Center. The new directors will help the center to shape programs that meet the needs of today's cable operating executives, he added.
Russo plans to launch a vendor/operator advisory forum, to expand the research library, to rebuild and relaunch the center's Web site (www.cablecenter.org
) and to host conferences and symposiums in 2004.
