Universal Remote Control plans to introduce a hybrid infrared remote for both cable and IPTV set-tops.
The UR5L-8700L-IP Remote Control is designed to control and operate both IPTV and digital set-top boxes from multiple manufacturers.
"As the exciting and dynamic world of cable TV continues to evolve, the UR5L-8700L-IP will effortlessly evolve right along with it," URC vice president of national accounts Bill Baker said in a statement. "This is the future-proof, versatile cable remote that the industry is demanding."
The UR5L-8700L-IP infrared remote has a range of 30 to 50 feet and can control up to five IR devices; it features full keypad backlighting and "illuminated mode" buttons.
In addition, the UR5L-8700L-IP is tru2way/OCAP-compliant and can provide picture-in-picture functionality. Other features include memory lock, volume lock, channel lock and system power-all.
Each unit is individually wrapped in a polyethylene bag with two AA alkaline batteries and a user manual. Standard warranties are 60 months mechanical and 24 months key text.

Founded in 1991, URC is based in Harrison, N.Y. According to the company, it has sold more than 50 million remote controls in the last 10 years.
