Los Angeles -- SeaChange International debuted "Watch & Buy," a TV-commerce application that will let cable operators use their video-on-demand services to sell DVDs or related merchandise to subscribers.

The set-top application, which works with SeaChange's proprietary VODlink applications platform, include a customizable user interface and a fully managed back-end order fulfillment system.

The Watch & Buy app displays a DVD symbol next to titles in an operator's VOD library if it's available for purchase as a DVD. Subscribers then have the option to order the movie as a VOD session as well as receive a DVD copy in the mail.

SeaChange is developing and supporting EBIF- and tru2way-based products, but is delivering Watch & Buy because "operators are simultaneously asking for solutions they can use today that generate additional revenue streams and differentiate services," said Anthony Landamia, SeaChange's product manager for in-home strategy and interactive TV applications.

Watch & Buy also enables other models, such as offering a free VOD session with the purchase of a DVD or offering additional items like movie soundtracks on CD or video games. According to SeaChange, the app can be integrated with any third-party back-end fulfillment solutions.
