Chicago--Charter Communications said Hallmark Channel has been selected to serve as exclusive sponsor for Charter Media's 2011 "Operation School Supplies" drive, an annual grass-roots back-to-school initiative taking place in most Charter service areas.
"Operation School Supplies," grew out of local programs instituted by Charter Media and became a national initiative seven years ago. "As the school year begins, many families find it difficult to include the extra costs of purchasing school supplies in an already stretched budget," Jim Heneghan, president of Charter Media, said in a statement.  " ‘Operation School Supplies' helps make certain that children can walk into the classroom with what they need. Having the support of Hallmark Channel this year is wonderful."
The 2011 collection of supplies gets underway July 15 and runs through September, during which time residents in Charter communities can make donations at Charter-Hallmark drop box locations at participating businesses. Charter will air commercials reminding residents to donate during the drive.
"It is Hallmark Channel's mission to celebrate life's everyday moments, and back-to-school season is full of those moments," Laura Lee, senior vice president of affiliate sales and marketing at Hallmark Channel and Hallmark Movie Channel, said in the statement. "Charter Media is an invaluable partner and we are delighted to be the exclusive sponsor for this important initiative that will help facilitate the education of so many children and allow parents and kids, alike, to enjoy and get the most out of this special time of year."
