Cable Shows Dominate AFI Top TV Show Picks

AMC, HBO, Netflix Place Multiple Shows Among Top 10

AMC’s Breaking Bad and Mad Men were among six cable shows chosen as the 10 top Television Programs Of The Year by the American Film Institute, the organization announced Monday.

HBO’s Game Of Thrones (pictured) and Veep, as well asFX’s The Americans and Showtime’s Masters Of Sex also received nods from the AFI, which honors 10 films and television programs "deemed culturally and artistically representative of the year’s most significant achievements in the art of the moving image," according to the organization.

Two of streaming video service Netflix’s original series -- political drama House Of Cards and prison drama Orange is the New Black – also garnered AFI recognition in the television category, as did ABC’s Scandal and CBS’ Good Wife.

The AFI Movies of the Year include 12 Years A Slave, American Hustle , Captain Phillips, Fruitvale Station, Gravity, Her, Inside Llewyn Davis, Nebraska, Saving Mr. Banks and The Wolf Of Wall Street, according to the organization.
