Cable Television Laboratories Inc. has issued a request for proposals for a CableHome-based residential gateway, the cable industry’s research-and-development consortium said Monday.
The deadline for responses concerning the integrated cable modem and router/wireless-access device is Jan. 31, CableLabs said.
CableLabs added that the gateway will enable the delivery of value-added services for home-networking and high-speed-data subscribers, including, but not limited to, those requiring quality-of-service guarantees.
“The industry recognizes the importance of CableHome and its key role in positioning cable as the 'platform of choice for the connected home,'” Comcast Online senior director of new-product deployments Jeff Austin said in a prepared statement. “This industry-supported RFP is testament to this and comes at a key moment in the evolution of broadband-service delivery.”
