Cable Television Laboratories Inc. said Monday that it has released the "DFAST Technology License Agreement" for digital-cable products.
The DFAST License -- a vital part of the December 2002 plug-and-play agreement between cable operators and TV manufacturers -- provides manufacturers with proprietary encryption technology, which is necessary to enable consumer-electronics devices to securely connect directly to cable networks nationwide
DFAST enables manufacturers to make integrated digital-TV sets that directly receive HDTV and other digital programs, including premium services, without requiring set-top boxes.
Other devices, including digital set-tops and digital-video recorders, may also be built under the license
The agreement is posted on CableLabs’ Web site (www.cablelabs.com/udcp/
