A bumper crop of Data Over Cable Service Interface Specification 1.1 devices
gained the stamp of approval from Cable Television Laboratories Inc. in the
recently completed certification wave.

Six new DOCSIS 1.1 modems were certified, including three modems from
Motorola Inc. and units from 3Com Corp., Correlant Communications Inc. and
Joohong Information and Communications Ltd.

Texas Instruments Inc. and Toshiba America Information Systems Inc. gained
recertification for their modified modems. That brings the total number of
DOCSIS 1.1-certified modems to 32.

Bigger gains were made in cable-modem-termination systems, with nine units
winning DOCSIS 1.1 qualification or requalification. That includes two units
from ADC Telecommunications Inc., two from Arris, two from Motorola and units
from Cisco Systems Inc., Juniper Networks Inc. and Scientific-Atlanta Inc.

Of that number, three CMTS units from Arris, ADC and S-A were requalified,
while the remaining six were new designs.

DOCSIS 1.1 specifications give cable data networks the ability to add
quality-of-service and data-prioritization functions, both deemed crucial for
next-generation voice and tiered-data offerings among cable
operators.
