Burlington, Mass. -- Adding an Internet electronic
commmerce spin to TV home shopping, CableSoft Corp. and OrderTrust will integrate their
technologies to enable interactive home shopping for cable viewers.
Combining CableSoft's on-demand information-based TV
services with OrderTrust's order-processing technologies, interactive home shopping would
be possible through a standard cable remote control, employing the shopping cart metaphor
familiar to Internet shoppers, the companies said.
Under the CableSoft/OrderTrust model, viewers would select
items they wish to purchase with a remote. When the shopping session is complete, the
viewer selects a "submit" button on the screen and the order is sent to a
CableSoft server located at a cable op's headend where the order is sent to OrderTrust for
Security measures include using a viewer's set-top box ID
number and a requiring a password from the viewer to complete the transaction. A roll-out
date for the service was not announced.
