Cablevision Bringing SOAPnet to N.Y.

For soap-opera fans who are Cablevision Systems video subscribers, June 30 will be a day to celebrate.

That’s when SOAPnet -- which supplies a host of day-and-date encores of soap-opera fare from the “Big Three” broadcast networks, as well as reruns of primetime soaps and original programming -- will be rolled out onto digital-cable packages within Cablevision’s New York metro area footprint.

The service -- which, a Cablevision spokesman said, had been available to select analog customers -- will become available on channel 89 to some 2 million digital-cable subscribers.

Those additions should push SOAPnet -- which had some 49.6 million subscribers, according to the latest Nielsen Media Research estimates -- past the 50 million-home plateau.
