Cablevision Systems Corp. has elevated James Blackley to executive vice president of corporate engineering and technology.
In this new position, Blackley, who had been serving as senior vice president of corporate engineering and technology, will continue in his role as the cable operator's chief engineering executive with oversight of the company's engineering and technology, Enterprise IT and e-media departments. He continues to report to Cablevision COO Tom Rutledge.

As executive vice president, Blackley works with Cablevision's executive team on the ongoing evolution of the company's strategic vision by assisting with critical objectives related to engineering and technology. This includes collaborating with various Cablevision business units, such as product management and customer service, to help them capitalize on key opportunities, and to design, develop and support current and future products and services through the effective use of advanced technologies.

"Jim's understanding of software creation and development has become even more important as Cablevision has evolved," said Rutledge in a statement. "Now that we have a network capable of delivering an entire suite of advanced digital services, our focus is on developing new interactive technologies that enhance those products even further and that provide maximum value for consumers. Jim has been extremely successful in directing this effort for Cablevision, and his promotion is well deserved."
Before heading corporate engineering and technology in 2006, Blackley was senior vice president of technology architecture for Cablevision. In that role, he was responsible for the team that created and implemented technical hardware, software and development standards for all of Cablevision's business units, quickly reducing unnecessary technology development time and expenses. Since joining Cablevision in 1996, Blackley has held a number of leadership positions within Cablevision's IT organization with increasing responsibility in key areas that included applications development and enterprise infrastructure and architecture.
