Cablevision Systems Corp. will launch digital start-up Anime Network as a
subscription-video-on-demand service beginning July 1.
Independently owned Anime will offer more than 20 hours of regularly
refreshed Japanese action-animated films and multiepisode series on an SVOD
basis for a monthly fee of $6.95, Cablevision officials said.
The network will join other a-la-carte SVOD services from Home Box Office,
Showtime Networks Inc., Playboy Entertainment Group Inc., Cinemax and The Walt
Disney Co. on Cablevision's iO: Interactive Optimum digital service.
Anime, though, is the first SVOD service on Cablevision that does not have a
basic-cable or pay TV presence on Cablevision's lineup.
"Anime Network on Demand is a unique and compelling SVOD service that we
expect will be very popular with the growing universe of iO customers,"
Cablevision senior vice president of digital product management Kristin Dolan
