Cablevision Systems Corp. launched an online mall for its high-speed-data customers called “Optimum Store Online” (www.optimumstore.com), offering consumer-electronics products such as HDTV sets, digital cameras, telephones and home-networking equipment.
Company officials said earlier this year that Cablevision would also allow digital-cable customers to buy products from the mall with the click of a remote, but the MSO hasn’t yet rolled out that t-commerce feature.
The only consumer-electronics firms that had products available on the Optimum Store site Thursday were Philips Consumer Electronics, Creative Labs and Motorola Inc.
Cablevision said that if customers buy certain products from the mall, they will qualify for “Optimum Cash” rebates, which they can apply to their cable bill.
The MSO is also running a sweepstakes through Dec. 31. One customer will win a Philips 42-inch plasma TV that retails for $5,000.
