Cablevision Systems Corp. will pay consumers in 11 New Jersey communities
rebates totaling $1.31 million to satisfy a rate order by the state's Board of
Consumers in Allamuchy, Bayonne, Bergen, Hamilton, Morris, Montague, Newark,
Oakland, Paterson, Raritan Valley and Rockland-Montvale will see their rates
lowered through Jan. 31, according to the state department.
The rollback rectifies a dispute between Cablevision and regulators, which
judged that the operator's maximum permitted basic rate -- set by federal law --
was too high.
Additionally, customers in Montague will get a one-time credit totaling
State officials said the company charged equipment and installation rates
that were not 'reasonable.' Those rebates must appear on customers' bills by the
end of March.
The state had questioned 14 of Cablevision's Federal Communications
Commission rate filings. This rebate order resolves all of those challenges,
according to the state department.
