Cablevision’s iO Tops 1M Mark


Cablevision Systems Corp. said Monday that its iO: Interactive Optimum digital-cable-subscriber total has topped the 1 million mark.

The MSO said more than 33% of its cable customers are now iO subscribers, up from just 6.5% at the end of 2002.

"We have been enormously gratified by the strong consumer response to our iO digital-cable service, which was very carefully conceived to incorporate features and benefits that are highly meaningful to customers and that leverage the capacity of Cablevision’s fully upgraded interactive network," Cablevision president of cable and communications Tom Rutledge said in a prepared statement.

"iO also represents a service far beyond the technological reach of conventional satellite providers like DirecTV [Inc.] and [EchoStar Communications Corp.’s] Dish [Network]," he added.
