Optimum Lightpath, Cablevision Systems' business broadband-service-provider unit, announced that the town of Greenwich, Conn., recently upgraded its metropolitan-area network infrastructure to Optimum Lightpath's Metro Ethernet service, which provides as least 1-gigabit-per-second connections at 36 locations.

Greenwich's new Metro Ethernet network carries data and Internet traffic for the town's 16 municipal-government facilities, four libraries, 11 elementary schools, three middle schools and Greenwich High School.

Previously, the network traffic for the municipal government, libraries and the schools was carried over three physically separate asynchronous-transfer-mode networks, which were also built and managed for the last five years by Optimum Lightpath.
