Cablevision Wants More DBS Licenses

Cablevision Systems Corp.’s Rainbow DBS unit filed an application at the Federal Communications Commission seeking approval to construct and launch five Ka-band satellites that would boost capacity for its planned direct-broadcast satellite venture, Dow Jones reported.

The application was reportedly filed Aug. 27 as part of the company's plans to expand its presence in the DBS business.

The cable operator launched its first satellite, Rainbow 1, in July, and it plans to unveil its new satellite-TV service Oct. 1.
