Optimum Lightpath, Cablevision Systems' business-services division, announced the availability of a 40-Gigabit-per-second optical transport service aimed at the financial industry and other organizations that need high bandwidth and low latency.
The company said the new service is available throughout Optimum Lightpath's footprint and will be offered with flat-rate pricing; however, it did not provide details on monthly pricing plans, citing competitive reasons.
"If there is a technology need on our customers' roadmap, it is on ours as well," Optimum Lightpath president Dave Pistacchio said in a statement. "To that end, we've developed a 40-Gigabit optical transport service to align with our customers' impending network upgrade strategies."
Optimum Lightpath has previously offered 10-Gbps connections. A 40-Gbps link can deliver better network efficiencies than multiple 10-Gbps links, according to the company. In addition, the service is able to support up to 100 Gbps if the bandwidth is required.
The new service is based on Wave Division Multiplexing technology and is positioned to support 40 Gigabit Ethernet when that becomes standardized.
Optimum Lightpath operates a fiber-to-the-business-premises network that spans more than 3,700 route miles and connects more than 3,500 buildings.
