Santa Cruz County, Calif., has filed for an injunction to prevent local
implementation of the merger between AT&T Broadband and Comcast Corp.

The city of Santa Cruz, which also denied the franchise transfer, joined the
county in the challenge which was filed Nov. 19 in the U.S. District Court for
the Northern District of California.

The county alleged that the local franchise, known legally as UACC Midwest,
is in violation of a decades-old federal consent judgment governing the
50,000-subscriber system.

Santa Cruz is seeking a temporary restraining order to prevent Comcast from
making any customer-service changes in the central California system, according
to Bill Marticorena, attorney and cable consultant to the
community.
