Campbell, Bartlett Get New Discovery Posts

Discovery Communications said Tuesday that it has promoted Bruce Campbell to chief development officer and general counsel and named Lee Bartlett as executive vice president , global production management, business and legal affairs.
Campbell , formerly president of digital media and corporate development, assumes the general counsel role from Joe LaSala, who has decided to leave the company effective at the end of the year. Campbell will continue to have responsibilities for global business development for Discovery and will report to CEO David Zaslav. He will split his time between Discovery's offices in Silver Spring, Md., and New York City.
Campbell will continue to lead Discovery's mergers and acquisitions and development strategies as well as assuming oversight of all legal affairs and litigation, and serving as the principal legal advisor to the company's management team and board of directors. Prior to joining Discovery in 2007,Campbell was executive vice president of business development for NBC Universal and played a key role in that programmer's acquisition of Telemundo and Vivendi Universal Entertainment. At Discovery, Campbell led the acquisition of HowStuffWorks.com, and helped engineer joint ventures with Oprah Winfrey, Hasbro and Sony/IMAX. He also led Discovery's acquisition of Cox Communications' 25% ownership in the programmer in 2007.
"Bruce was one of the first people that I brought on when I joined Discovery three years ago and he has been instrumental in driving many of our key growth strategies, including our Digital Media business and joint ventures with Oprah Winfrey, Hasbro and our 3D network with Sony and IMAX," Zaslav said in a statement. "I worked with Bruce for many years at NBC and now Discovery. He is one of the smartest people I know and will be a great leader for our development and legal organizations."
Bartlett, a former ITV and Fox executive, will join Discovery on Sept. 1 and will report to chief operating officer Peter Liguori. Bartlett will be based in Los Angeles, while also maintaining offices in Silver Spring and London.
"Having known and worked with Lee for many years, I can attest firsthand to his expertise and skill in managing and negotiating high-level production and content acquisition deals," Liguori said in a statement. "Lee's experience and innovative spirit will be a major asset to Discovery Communications as we continue to build our global brands with the highest quality nonfiction programming across our portfolio."
