TruTV has promoted Darren Campo to senior vice president of programming, production and development, the top programming job at the service.
In his newly expanded role, Campo, who was serving as senior vice president of programming, strategy and research, adds oversight of the production and development departments. One of the largest original programming operations in cable, the unit is responsible for more than 30 original series and upward of 500 installments annually.
With Court TV, TruTV’s predecessor since 1999, Campo has played an integral role in evolving to a nearly all-original primetime programming lineup, with such series as Ocean Force and Speeders paving the way for improved ratings and the growth of a new audience of “Real Engagers,” the network’s target audience.
“Darren embodies all the qualities of an extraordinary programming executive. He has an incredible passion for television and brings to the role an invaluable understanding of the audience and the kind of strategic thinking rarely seen today," said TruTV executive vide president, general manager Marc Juris in a statement. “I have no doubt that with Darren in this newly expanded role, we will continue the great ratings success we’ve enjoyed to date.”
Prior to joining Court TV, Campo held various positions at CBS, beginning in the network research department and later serving as program manager for the CBS Television Stations Group. While at CBS Television Stations, he worked on the acquisition and development of syndicated programming, including Martha Stewart Living and Hollywood Squares. He also developed local newscasts and co-branding of all owned-and-operated stations and produced a daily talk show pilot for CBS at WBBN in Chicago.
