Discovery HD Theatre is set to become Canada’s first HD specialty service.
CTV Specialty Television Inc. and Discovery Communications Inc. said Friday that they have filed a joint-venture application with the Canadian Radio-television and Telecommunications Commission to launch the network.
“Today's announcement represents a uniquely Canadian solution to feeding an ever-growing consumer appetite for HD content in Canada," CTV president Rick Brace said in a prepared statement.
“The joint venture supports the CRTC's position on HD, encouraging Canadian services like Discovery Channel to partner with foreign services, trading in on its strong international and domestic partnerships and ultimately providing consumers with the most compelling HD content from Canada and around the world,” he added.
