Patricia San Pedro's documentary The Cancer Dancer this month was awarded with a Suncoast Emmy Award in the documentary category.

The documentary, which details San Pedro’s breast cancer journey from diagnosis through her double mastectomy, 17 sessions of chemotherapy and several reconstruction procedures.

San Pedro, a Miami-based TV producer who has won several Emmys, said: “This one means the most since it represents my own breast cancer healing journey and my desire to help others.”

San Pedro started videotaping four hours after hearing the words, “You have cancer” and continued to do so through the entire process. The camera never stopped rolling.

Discovery Familia in the U.S. and Discovery Home & Health in Latin America aired the documentary during October's Breast Cancer Awareness month.

San Pedro dedicated her Emmy Award to the “Positively Pat” support group she created.
