Cartoon, Popeye Fight to the Finish

Cartoon Network will present one of animation's classic characters in a new
light in late-night.

Beginning Oct. 28 at 1 a.m., Cartoon will bow I'm Popeye, a weekly
half-hour program featuring three of the sailor man's episodes that have been
restored to their original theatrical states, the network announced
Wednesday.

A number of the cartoons have never been shown on television in their
original form.

The cartoons will be culled from hundreds of color and black-and-white
theatrical shorts from Fleischer Studios and Famous Studios, ranging from 1933's
first Popeye cartoon, Popeye the Sailor, through 1957's Spooky
Swabs
.

Cartoon anticipates that the show will play well with adults, scheduling
I'm Popeye immediately after its recently launched three-hour,
adult-oriented block, 'Adult Swim,' which airs Sundays starting at 10
p.m.
