CBS to Webcast ‘Evening News’


CBS said Thursday that it plans to run live Webcasts of its CBS Evening News with Katie Couric broadcasts on, beginning Sept. 5. The Eye Network boasted that it will be the first major broadcaster to run live simulcasts of its evening newscast online.

Additional online components for the CBS Evening News with Katie Couric include a “Couric & Company” blog, which will contain free video reports from CBS correspondents worldwide. Edited by CBS news journalist Greg Kandra, the blog will allow viewers to send comments and questions to the network.

The network said it will also run “Eye to Eye” on-demand reports on the Web site. The segments will include extended interviews conducted by Couric, the longtime co-host of NBC’s Today Show, and run approximately five minutes in length. The “Eye to Eye” reports will be available for audio and via podcasts, distributed for free on Apple’s iTunes store. will also run one-minute “Katie Couric’s Notebook” reports, containing a one-minute look at a top issue or story.
