Change In The Weather For Brindell

The Weather Channel’s Lynn Brindell has been promoted to executive vice president of strategic marketing (from senior VP) and takes responsibility for the network’s “Forecast Earth” climate-change initiative.

Brindell, who’s been at the Atlanta-based programmer since October 2006 after stints at Food Network and Lifetime Television, gains responsibility for all marketing functions: creative, research, and public relations as well as ad sales and affiliate marketing, consumer marketing and licensing.

The network gave Brindell credit for enhancing the channel’s green platform, adding programming staffed devoted to covering environment-related issues and forging a relationship with the National Environmental Education Foundation.

Her promotion comes soon after former general manager and executive VP Wonya Lucas left to become chief marketing officer at Discovery Communications. Strategic marketing was part of Lucas’s realm at the Landmark Communications-owned weather programmer. Brindell formerly reported to Lucas.

The Weather Channel president Debora Wilson, to whom now Brindell reports, said in a release: “Lynn has demonstrated very strong leadership in championing our brand in her role as SVP marketing during the past 15 months. I know her vision, marketing expertise and strategic leadership will continue to benefit our company immensely.”
