Chappelle’s Show DVD Sales Not Missing

Comedian Dave Chappelle is still AWOL, but the DVD of the second season of his Comedy Central show is on its way to becoming the fastest-selling TV-DVD title in history, officials said Wednesday.

Chappelle’s Show: Season 2 Uncensored has broken both the first-day and seven-day sales records for TV on DVD, with close to 500,000 units sold on its May 24 release date and more than 1.2 million units sold its first week out in the market.

“Based on the popularity of the first Chappelle on DVD, we were confident that season two would sell well, but these figures are just unbelievable and have far exceeded our wildest expectations,” Comedy president Doug Herzog said in a prepared statement.

The network had to suspend production on and indefinitely delay the scheduled May 31 premiere of Chappelle’s third season when the comedian took off, going to Africa.

Chappelle’s Show: Season One Uncensored, released last year, is the best-selling TV-on-DVD title, with close to 3 million copies sold.
