Charter, Comcast Feeling the ‘Moxi’

Digeo Inc. Monday announced two major MSO deals for its “Moxi” broadband-media-center platform.

Charter Communications Inc., Motorola Inc. and Digeo announced the commercial launch of the Motorola “Broadband Media Center” powered with Digeo's Moxi in the MSO’s Rochester, Minn., market.

And Comcast and Digeo announced a planned commercial trial of the Motorola BMC with Moxi, but they did not specify the system.

Charter had been testing the advanced digital set-top -- which gives subscribers the ability to pause live TV and record shows to the BMC’s hard drive -- in Rochester.

“We're excited to fulfill our commitment to providing advanced digital-cable services to our customers in the Rochester market,” Charter CEO Carl Vogel said in a prepared statement. “The Charter DVR [digital-video recorder] with Moxi is a powerful platform to outpace the service offerings of satellite providers.”

“We're looking forward to working with Digeo and Motorola on the Motorola BMC with Moxi to help us learn more about customer interest in integrated media centers and the features and functionality that most appeal to them,” Comcast executive vice president of new business development Steve Silva said about the upcoming trial.

“The Motorola BMC with Moxi platform offers an exciting high-definition DVR that provides a unique user interface,” he added.
