Charter Communications Inc. and Digeo Broadband Inc. launched an interactive
digital-TV service giving users access to six virtual i-channels, the MSO
The channels, developed jointly by the companies, broadcast news, weather,
sports, entertainment and money and shopping information.
Charter said the channels are available starting Tuesday to its Glendale,
Calif., digital-cable customers at no extra charge. The service isn't available
to direct-broadcast satellite customers, however.
Digital-cable users will automatically enter the i-channel portal when they
turn on their TVs, Charter said. The portal is accessed via existing TV and
cable equipment. From there, users can go to regular programming or to any of
the six channels.
Charter plans to expand the service to other California systems, although it
did not have an exact date.
