Charter Engineer Nabs SCTE Award

Pragash Pillai, senior engineer of digital-video technologies for Charter
Communications Inc., has been named the '2003 Young Engineer of the Year,' the
Society of Cable & Telecommunications Engineers announced Monday.

Pace Micro Technology plc, Multichannel News and the SCTE sponsor the
'Young Engineer of the Year Award,' which recognizes engineering professionals
under age 30 for their contributions to the cable and telecommunications
industries.

Robert Pendarvis of Comcast Corp. received the award for 2002, its first
year.

Pillai, 29, is being recognized for his contributions to the design of a
digital-cable-distribution network focusing on end-to-end architecture required
for advanced services such as video-on-demand and high-definition TV.

He will receive the award Wednesday, Jan. 15, during SCTE's Conference on
Emerging Technologies 2003, to be held Jan. 14 through 16 at the Fontainebleau
Hilton Resort in Miami.
