Charter to Offer HSD Wireless Access

Charter Communications Inc. has joined with RemotePipes Inc. to offer its high-speed-data subscribers dial-up and wireless Internet access while traveling.

"The ‘IP Roamer’ service can be seamlessly integrated with Charter's virtual-private-network services, allowing our business customers’ employees to securely access resources on their corporate networks from any location," said James Henderson, Charter’s vice president for business development, in a prepared statement.

Users enter a user name and password to access multiple globally aggregated Internet-protocol networks -- such as those run by Level 3 Communications Inc. and Sprint Corp. -- covering 150 countries, Charter said.

The MSO added that it will co-brand the service with RemotePipes and share the revenue. The companies will offer both hourly and daily rates, along with prepaid and postpaid billing options.
