All subscribers will be able to access a batch of free news, sports, entertainment and weather product. Charter is debuting two subscription products -- “High-Speed Plus” and “Charter Music” -- which are priced at $7.99 per month
High-Speed Plus offers content from Movielink LLC (www.movielink.com), AmericanGreetings.com (www.americangreetings.com), ALFY Inc.’s Clever Island, CNN NewsPass, CNN Now, MLB.com (www.mlb.com), Encyclopedia Britannica Inc., weather.com (www.weather.com) and Shockwave.com's (www.shockwave.com) GameBlast.
Charter Music is powered by MusicNet and features streamed live music that can be downloaded and played back offline.
Charter is using Synacor Inc.'s platform for the new portal.
"Previously, our site had been co-branded with MSN, and our control of the home page was somewhat limited," vice president of broadband marketing Barbara Hedges said in a prepared statement. "The new site is fully in the control of Charter and our customers."
She added, "By leveraging Synacor's relationships with fee-based online services, we've bundled a variety of premium content and services that should prove very popular as a value add with our customers."
