Charter Taps Telecom Vet

Charter Communications tapped Don Detampel to head its business telephony efforts, naming the telecom veteran executive vice president and president, commercial services.
Detampel comes from New Global Telecom, a wholesale provider of VoIP services to non-traditional telephony providers. Detampel served as executive chairman of NGT prior to its acquisition by Comcast earlier this year.
A 30-year veteran of the telecom space, Detampel has also served stints at Raindance Communications, OneSecure, ConferTech International, Schneider Communications and GlobalCenter, a former wholly owned subsidiary of Global Crossing.
In a statement, Charter CEO Michael Lovett said the St. Louis-based MSO has carved out a strong competitive position with significant opportunity in the commercial space and that Detampel's "experience will further enhance our growth potential. His strong strategic planning abilities are complemented by equally strong financial, operational and technological innovation skills."
