Washington -- The National Cable Television Association has
hired William Check as vice president of science and technology, replacing Wendell Bailey,
who is now with NBC.
NCTA president Decker Anstrom said Check will report
directly to him, and he will be a member of the senior staff, when he joins the
association Oct. 5.
Check is joining the NCTA from WorldSpace, where he was
vice president of business integration. Prior to WorldSpace, Check worked for nine years
at GE Spacenet, where he served as a senior staff engineer, developing new products such
as a multimedia-based, spread-spectrum, satellite-communications system.
"His expertise will prove a valuable asset to the
cable industry at a time when cable is playing a leadership role in the transition to the
digital era," Anstrom said in a prepared statement.
