Via a multiplatform deal between parent NBC and Miramax Films, Bravo will be
the basic-cable-exclusive home to Chicago, the musical that scored six
Academy Awards, including "Best Picture," Sunday night.
Chicago will make its broadcast-network and basic-cable debut in November
2005 on the "Peacock" and Bravo. The networks will share the same three-year
window for the film.
Terms of the deal, which the parties said were completed last week, were not
disclosed. Bravo and NBC officials did not return calls by press time.
"There was never any doubt what the best picture of the year was," NBC
Entertainment president Jeff Zucker said in a prepared statement. "And there was
never any doubt we wanted this film."
He added, "Miramax is the industry leader, and it's appropriate that we be in
business with [Miramax cofounder] Harvey [Weinstein] and his wonderful team. We
don't buy many theatrical movies anymore, but this one we had to have. It's a
perfect fit for both NBC and Bravo."
