Financially beleaguered Nortel Networks Corp. is now facing a patent suit, as well.
Ciena Corp. Tuesday filed a complaint in the United States District Court, Eastern District of Texas, Marshall Division charging Nortel with infringing on six patents related to Ciena's communications-networking systems and technology.
“Ciena has made significant investment in research and development in technology, and the company's efforts and investment have resulted in innovation and advancements,” Ciena said in a prepared statement.
“Many of these advancements are the subject of patents issued to Ciena by the United States Patent and Trademark Office,” the vendor added. “In such cases where Ciena believes there is infringement on these patents by third parties, Ciena will seek to protect and enforce its intellectual-property rights and technology leadership on behalf of its shareholders.”
