Network gear maker Ciena Corp. is supplying its metro switching products to
Cox Communications Inc. in a deal announced Tuesday.
Cox is using Ciena’s Online Metro and Online Edge switches to funnel data and
voice traffic on its broadband network.
Melding voice and data traffic through one switching system will increase
capacity and flexibility for the MSO, according to Ciena.
“Ciena’s product family allows us to cost-effectively upgrade our network
while leveraging our existing infrastructure,” said Darryl Ladd, Cox's director
of network architecture.
“The ONLINE platform’s technology, reliability and feature sets are
instrumental in our ability to deliver advanced data services to our growing
customer base.'
